February begins with a blast of energy in the form of the Lunar eclipse which took place on January 31st. This was a Lunar eclipse as well as a blue moon making for a powerful combination to end the month and send us forward. The theme of this transit was all about freedom and it it’s a theme which will carry us well into February as well.
Freedom means different things to different people. For some of us freedom may mean that we need to tighten the hatches. Perhaps we need more boundaries, more discipline and less of what we’ve been doing. For others it may mean that we need to let go. To loosen the grip and understand control is often a contrivance of the ego rather than a reflection of our true capacity.
Regardless of what freedom means to the individual on a collective there is a sigh of relief as we feel the possibility before us. But possibility is merely an opportunity. One that we must be willing to step forward and take in order for it to produce anything of significance.
And therein resides the dilemma. Yes, the transit on the 31st of January and its energy carrying us through February is opening a portal for opportunity but only if we are willing to claim this power and to make the changes. Nothing worth having comes easily and now we are being tasked with putting in the effort behind all of those intentions we’ve held so dear.
To assist you through this energetic swarm I have your monthly Tarotscopes. If you would like additional information on what Tarotscopes are, how they are created and how best to work with them in order to get the most out of these monthly scopes you can read my article Tarotscopes: How to Understand and Use Them.
Aries • Knight of Swords
You are on a mission this month. Cutting through B.S. like it’s your job as you seek to get closer to that which you desire. This is a very powerful energy, a bit like a firecracker. Like firecrackers, however, this energy can be fleeting and potentially destructive if proper precaution is not taken. The Knight if a youthful energy. That energy of possibility that we possess as a teen and young adult that makes us feel that anything is possible, and no one can tell us differently. The Knight, however, lacks the maturity and wisdom that comes with experience. The moral of the story? You can get a lot done this month. You can make major strides and accomplish what you are after but only if you take the precautions. Only if you put this energy to work for you and not against you. Watch for impetuous actions that lack any sense of structure and meaning. It’s one thing to take risks. It’s another to throw baby out with the bathwater. Taurus • Justice
You are under the influence of Justice this month, Taurus. This energy is here to keep you in line and keep you protected. You want to walk the line this month. Pay attention that your words and actions come from a place of honesty and integrity. If you say it, mean it. If you commit, follow through. If you are asked a question be totally honest even if that feels really scary and uncomfortable. Maybe even because it feels really scary and uncomfortable. Take the time to evaluate where you are coming from and what your intentions are. Justice is not here to make life hard unless you’re out there trying to do that yourself. Justice simply ensures that those who come from truth and honor are supported and those who are lying, scheming and playing games are revealed. Which side of that coin you fall on is ultimately up to you. Gemini • Page of Swords
This energy feels a bit like kids playing with knives. It seems thrilling but ultimately can and likely will be a total disaster. The Page of any suit is the most youthful of the court cards, think 7-13 years old. Now think about how you behaved at that age. Even the most well behaved among us likely did some stupid shit in their time. It’s part of the process of growing up and learning the ropes. The Page of Swords represents that spark of uncontrollable excitement we feel when we have a new idea that shows, at least this very early stage, huge promise. The Page wants to get up and go, to move mountains to make things happen. She doesn’t stop and consider whether or not the idea holds merit. She seldom stops to consider what she needs to do in order to make this idea become a reality. Because of this her ideas can sometimes fail to reach fruition and she often misses her mark. The Page reminds you this month to feel free to explore new opportunities that come your way but do not be naïve or in a rush. Take your time. Do it right and put a plan together that gives your idea the best shot. Cancer • 8 of Swords
Where do you feel stuck, Cancer? In what ways do you feel your hands are tied? The 8 of Swords represents those times in life when we feel blindfolded and hog tied. In truth, however, the only thing tethering us is our perception. This month you will need to be mindful of the ways in which your own perception imprisons you. You are encouraged to find an elevated perspective, to reach out and ask for help doing so if needed. This will allow a bird’s eye view that will enable you to see avenues before you that you could not see when on the ground. When you change your perception, rest assured the situation will change. You will discover that those tethers you thought held you in place are actually quite easily slipped off. Leo • 6 of Swords
Freedom seems to be especially present for you this month. The 6 of Swords is a card of transition and moving on. It’s a signal for you to begin to assess what is no longer working for you. Relationships. Jobs. Personal habits. All of these and more need to be evaluated so that you can weed out what is holding you back. Look, transition is never easy. In a utopia we could live in a bubble where everything we needed was provided and we didn’t need to encounter tension or difficult. But this is not a utopia. This is the real world and in the real world when things are not working we need to move on. But it takes a pretty hard and courageous honesty to acknowledge that things we are doing are just not working. That those we love are just not good for us or that we’ve expanded as far as we can in a job and need to move on. Yes, there will be tension. Yes, change can be hard. But it can also be really, really good and open up doors that lead us to exactly what we’ve been searching for and didn’t even know it. Virgo • The Hierophant
There are times in life when its best to walk the line and do what is expected. I am not too fond of those times but hey, we can’t be rebellious, breaking the rules, all the time. The Hierophant encourages us to take a path that adheres to the structure and order in place. To follow the rules, to look towards expectations placed upon us not as a challenge but as an opportunity to learn something. Maybe you are wrestling with this. Maybe you are not sure what the right choice or action is. Turn to those who may be in a position to help guide you and illuminate the path ahead. Counselors, coaches, mentors, trusted friends and family. Those who possess either the training to guide or the experience to help you find your way will prove invaluable this month as you navigate the energies at play. It can be fun to discard the rules and pave our own paths but this month it may prove far more destabilizing than is necessary. This month its best to ask permission first and then proceed. Libra • The Chariot
Are you ready to get up and go? To make things happen? To commit and then set a course of action that takes you immediately to your destination? Good because ready or not the Chariot is at ready to burn rubber. This is a very powerful energy. An opening for going after those dreams, making those changes and generally accepting that if you want to see something happen for you then you need to pick up your feet and make it happen. This is not the time for waiting. This is not a time for hoping. This is a time to ask yourself what you want and then move steadfast in its direction. The Chariot helps to provide you with the vigor, energy and resolution needed to see your way through. It’s not a promise that the terrain will be completely smooth, but it is a force that will help you move through any challenges that make themselves known. You simply have to make the commitment and jump on board. Scorpio • 9 of Coins
Freedom looks like the fruits of your labors arriving and not a moment too soon. The 9 of Coins gives you the opportunity to lavish yourself in the freedom your hard work now affords you. The chance to appreciate all the effort that you’ve put in. This is a sign that the toiling of the last few months is finally paying off and you can not only rest easier but enjoy some of those things you may have withheld from lately. You’ve built a foundation that allows you to enjoy some of the sweetness life has to offer this month so take advantage of it. Schedule that bodywork appointment. Take yourself out to a nice dinner at the new but maybe a little pricey restaurant. You don’t need to go overboard but a little splurging is called for this month. It reminds you that all of your hard work pays off and helps to refuel you as you take your next steps forward. Sagittarius • 4 of Coins
How desperately we crave holding onto our “things” that we grasp them so tightly. We hold them close to us and shield them from anyone or anything that may seek to separate us from them. And even when we have more than enough, maybe even enough that we could still share and have plenty for ourselves, we still hold so tight. This level of attachment is likely to make itself known to you this month, Sagittarius. The question is how do you work with the energy? There is a certain element of conservation with this energy that is sometimes needed. We spend less and save more. We give less to those who take from us and do not attend to our needs in reciprocation. These are valid and healthy ways in which we conserve our resources, material and immaterial that benefit us. But there is also a shadow side to this energy. A greedier, miserly energy that makes us feel that it’s never enough. Those who have millions and hardly can help their communities who are suffering, for example. Only you can suss out which side of the coin you fall. This month ultimately boils down to having trust in having enough. To know that the tighter we grasp to things the easier it slips through our hands. This month calls for a softer, gentler approach. With yourself and others. If you would like to have your own weekly reading delivered direct to your inbox each Sunday evening you can sign up to receive my Bespoke Tarotscopes.
Capricorn • 4 of Wands
This month freedom comes in the stability that you create in your life. What does home look like to you? Both the structure that keeps us warm on those cold winter nights and the inner halls of your relationship to yourself. In what ways can you fortify these establishments this month. To see to it that your needs are met. That you have a place that feels safe. A place where you are comfortable getting vulnerable and being your most authentic self. This month pay attention to habits that may detract from the stability in your life. Is it time to say goodbye to something or someone? On a mundane level it may simply be time to honor your physical space with a little redecorating so that it honors who you are and the feeling you desire to have when there. Sacred self-care and self-nurturing is equally important as you seek to find a space within that allows you to feel at home regardless of where you roam. Aquarius • 9 of Swords
This month your likely to encounter dark moments that leave you frightened for the future. Moments of extreme anxiety and stress that leave you feeling demotivated and unable to tackle what is before you. Sounds grand, doesn’t it? I don’t mean to hit you with a one, two, punch but such is the energy of the 9 of Swords. It’s all about fear, anxiety and feeling as though the shadows on the wall of your bedroom are indeed real monsters. But that is just it, Aquarius, there are shadows everywhere but are they truly the looming monsters they appear to be? The stress brought on with this card has more to do with our perception of what we fear than it does the object we fear itself. Sometimes we work ourselves up to such a degree that we become paralyzed and unable to take the blanket from our eyes. If we did, we would see that perhaps those monsters are nothing more than a trick of the eye. This month you may not be able to avoid situations which cause panic but you can control how you choose to interact with this energy. Instead of sleepless nights under the covers in hiding you can choose instead to face what you are fearing. To walk right up to it, nose to nose. You may not be able to dismiss every “monster” as nothing but at least by facing it you put yourself in a position of doing something about it and that is where you will find your sweet relief. Pisces • 4 of Cups
This month you may fall into the “woe is me” pity party. The 4 of Cups is an apathetic, forlorn energy. It brings to mind sitting at the lunch table by yourself in elementary school watching as everyone else laughs and jokes with their friends who are all seated near them. There is this lamenting sitting alone and yet a stubbornness that keeps us locked in our seats instead of getting up and trying to partake. This sense of missing out is a nasty feeling, for sure, but it’s a feeling we can do something about. This month rather than sitting under the tree with your arms folded feeling sorry for yourself get up and get proactive. You can’t make others accept you or do as you wish but you can start taking action to find where you belong. To make opportunities happen. To create the flow you desire, a flow that is not available to you if you are too busy throwing yourself one hell of a pity party.
